Put almost any dog in water and the legs start moving. That looks like swimming, so most owners stop worrying there. But paddling and floating are two different things. Some dogs paddle hard and still sit low, nose at the surface, going nowhere. By the time you can see they are in trouble, they are already panicking.

THE PROBLEM WAS NEVER THE BODY. IT WAS THE HEAD.
Most cheap vests will hold a dog's back up just fine. What they fail at is the head. The muzzle ends up level with the surface, water goes up the nose on every small wave, and a calm dog turns into a scared one in seconds.
The AquaPaw front float is a full padded flap under the chin, not a thin strip sewn onto a collar. It sits under the jaw and lifts the whole head clear of the surface. Your dog breathes, looks around, and settles.
CUT FOR BARREL CHESTS AND FLAT FACES
Frenchies, English Bulldogs, Pugs, Dachshunds and Corgis get sized out of almost every jacket on the shelf. Deep round rib cage, short legs, wide neck. The vest either chokes at the throat or rides up over the shoulders.

GETTING HIM BACK OUT IS THE PART NOBODY PLANS FOR
Ask anyone who has tried to lift a soaked 70 lb Retriever over the side of a boat, or up a pool ladder with no steps. Wet dog, wet hands, nothing to hold.
The handle on top sits at the balance point, so one clean pull brings him up level instead of nose-first. That single detail is the reason most boat owners buy a jacket at all.
THE HANDLE IS ONLY AS GOOD AS ITS STITCHING
A grab handle that tears the first time you actually need it is worse than no handle, because you were counting on it. This one is box-stitched and bar-tacked into the load-bearing panel, not tacked onto the outer shell.

Most dogs never wear a jacket because they cannot swim. They wear one because the water has a wake, a current, a drop-off, or three hours of it. Put it on at the trailer and forget about it.

WHEN THE LIGHT GOES, HE DOES NOT
The last swim of the day is always the one in bad light. 360 degree reflective stripes throw back boat lights, headlamps and a phone torch from across the water.

Yellow, hi-vis green and red. There is no blue in the range on purpose. Blue disappears the moment a dog is more than twenty feet out, which is exactly when you need to find him.
The shell is quick-dry ripstop, so it is not still soggy the next morning, and the side-release buckles open with one wet hand.
MEASURE THE CHEST, NOT THE SCALE
This is where most people get a life jacket wrong. Two dogs at the same weight can be two sizes apart, because weight says nothing about rib cage shape.
Run a tape around the widest point of the chest, just behind the front legs, and go by that number. Between two sizes? Take the larger one. The straps cinch down, they do not stretch up.
THE HONEST PART
This is a flotation aid. It is not a substitute for watching your dog.
You will see other brands imply a safety certification. There is no US Coast Guard certification program for dog life jackets, so no jacket on the market has one, ours included. Anyone claiming otherwise is telling you something that cannot be true.
What we will tell you: introduce it in shallow water first, check the fit before every session, and stay within reach. Always supervise your dog around water.
